Level Placement
In Children’s Program, placement is done primarily based on age by September 30th of the academic year. In Lower School and Upper School, students will be placed in a level of instruction suited to their abilities after taking a free placement class. Acceptance into BVII is also done by taking a free placement class. The Adult Program offers Beginning through Intermediate classes based on prior training and fitness level.
Free Placement Class
Prospective students interested in the Children’s Program can take a free placement class prior to registering but it is not required as we place mainly by age in this program. Lower School and Upper School students are required to take a free placement class prior to registering. Adults may take a single class for a one-time fee prior to signing up for a session.
How to Register
Ballet Virginia uses an online Customer Management System (Pike 13) for all students. The first step is to create a profile for you (manager) and your student on Pike 13. Make sure to give your payment information and e-sign the waivers. YOU CANNOT SELF-REGISTER FOR THE CLASS. After you have created your profile, call at 757-446-1401 or email us at academy@balletvirginia.org.
For the Children’s Program, tell us the class you would like to register for along with your student’s full name. For Lower and Upper School, tell us your student’s age and past dance training experience so we can schedule a placement class. We can register your student after the placement class.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy
Tuition is non-refundable. Refunds will not be made, except in the case of serious illness or injury, verified by a doctor’s certificate. If a student is dismissed from BV because of unacceptable behavior, no tuition will be refunded. BV reserves the right to deny any refund request. Should a tuition refund be issued, the registration fee will not be refunded. If a student wishes to withdraw from the Academy, BV must receive a completed withdrawal form. The parent or guardian is responsible for all tuition payments due up until the point BV receives written notification of withdrawal.
Attendance Policy
Regular attendance of classes is essential to advance through the levels of study. Up to ten missed classes per academy year may be made up if there is an appropriate class available (same level or below). More than five missed classes in a five-month period without a doctor’s note or legitimate family emergency will result in a reevaluation of level placement and possible loss of performance roles.
Class Change Policy
If there are other times when a dancer’s level meets besides their currently enrolled time, transferring to another class is an option when family schedules present a conflict. Please fill out a Class Change Request Form and return to the Ballet Virginia front desk. The first-class change is free; additional class change during a consecutive session are $15.
Late Pick-up Policy
All dancers must be picked up immediately after class. BV has a late pick up fee of $10 for every 15 minutes a student is picked up late. Parents are asked to be especially timely when their child’s class is the last class of the day. BV assumes no responsibility or liability for any dancer during breaks from classes or rehearsals inside or outside of the BV facility.
Financial Policy
Ballet Virginia has a 10-month tuition payment plan (from the time of registration through June 1) for the academic year. A $10 late fee applies if payment is received after the 5th of each month. An insufficient funds fee of $25 will be charged for all returned checks and declined credit cards.
Photo Policy
Upon registration, Ballet Virginia is granted permission to take photos of any and all dancers to be used in publications, advertisements and other promotional materials. Permission is also hereby granted to Ballet Virginia to copyright such photos in its name. If parents and or students desire otherwise, written permission must be received prior to registration.
Right to Refuse Policy
Ballet Virginia reserves the right to suspend, dismiss, or refuse services to any student, parent, guardian, or individual whose behavior conflicts with the standards of BV or whose actions are deemed detrimental to others or BV.
Medical and Liability Release Policy
Ballet Virginia assumes no responsibility or liability for any dancer during breaks from classes or rehearsals inside or outside of the BV facility. Ballet Virginia will also not be held responsible for any bodily injuries sustained while on the premises or for loss or damage to any personal items brought on the premises by students or their families. This shall include, but not be limited to any and all activities in the dance school, directly or indirectly around the dance school, or in any other place so designated by Ballet Virginia including performances and outreach activities.
