Lower School is the beginning of our professional program. Classes are offered at both our Norfolk and Virginia Beach locations. Students in this program generally range in age from seven to fifteen. Dancers must be committed and have a strong work ethic.
Beginning in Level 3, students must train year round. These levels are a progressive course of study designed to train technically strong and artistically expressive classically trained dancers. Electives available include modern, contemporary and musical theater.
Classes offered:
A free placement class is required prior to registration in Lower School.
These class levels are a way of grouping students into classes that best meet their individual needs. Considerations for level placement include physical strength, mind/body connection, flexibility and maturity. Lower school is designed for the committed dancer from approximately ages seven to fifteen.
Level 1
Two ballet technique classes per week plus optional electives including tap and musical theater.
Level 2
Two ballet technique classes and one modern class per week plus optional electives including tap and musical theater.
Level 3
Three ballet technique classes, conditioning class, pre-pointe or pointe class and modern class per week plus optional electives including tap, jazz, musical theater and contemporary.
Level 4
Three ballet technique classes, conditioning classes, pointe classes and a modern class per week plus optional electives.
Musical Theater for Kids (elective)
A one-hour per week elective for ages ages 7 and up that students can take as an extra class or by itself.
