BV’s professional company coming this fall.

After 11 years of offering high quality ballet training to the Hampton Roads community, we are proud to announce the debut of our very own professional ballet company. Get ready for exciting new repertoire this season, including “Diversity in Dance,” choreographed by Lydia Roberts Coco, former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Principal Dancer; “Masquerade,” a Halloween themed production; as well as your classic favorites like “The Nutcracker” and “Sleeping Beauty.”

Now the heart of ballet is here in Hampton Roads.

Our brand new full-time company consists of 10 amazing dancers from the Hampton Roads area and beyond. They are bringing the finest training and experience to our stages, and we are honored to be launching with them!

At Ballet Virginia, we didn’t take the road most traveled.  Instead, we built a thriving ballet academy with our team of dedicated teachers, and we allowed our professional company to evolve from it, seed to flower.  This is important to us because our academy students will be absolutely clear about what it takes to become a professional dancer because they are living it every single day. This keeps us true to our mission of nurturing dance ambassadors and supporting a thriving dance culture in the Hampton Roads area.

Not only will our company members be bringing you great performances, but they will also be stepping in as teachers and choreographers as Ballet Virginia expands its academy to two locations.

“We’re excited to foster mentoring relationships between our students and our company members,” says Suzanna Lownsbury Co-Artistic Director. “Having these dancers living here in Hampton Roads will really give our students a window into the daily life of a professional dancer. And now our students will have a wonderful place to begin their professional careers when they are ready.”
