We are looking forward to Summer 2020 at Ballet Virginia with hopes of teaching both at the studios in person for some students and continuing Zoom classes for others.

We have moved the dates of several programs and changed the formats of others. As always, our intention is to offer what is best for the students while keeping the community as a whole in mind as well.

Children’s Program: Classes will remain on Zoom from June 15th through August 8th (eight-week session) for levels Dance with Me, Pre-Ballet, Beginning Ballet, Ballet A and Ballet B. No camps will be offered.

Lower School: In person studio classes will begin on June 15th  for Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 assuming Phase II happens as planned and go through August 8th. Classes will be live streamed via Zoom for those who are not attending in person. The Junior Intensive will take place at the Norfolk studios from August 10th to 21st. Assuming Phase II is in effect, Ballet Virginia will comply with all safety measures and only allow the appropriate number of students per capacity.

Upper School: In person studio classes will begin on June 15th assuming Phase II happens as planned and go through August 8th. Classes will be live streamed via Zoom for those who are not attending in person. The Intensive will take place at the Norfolk studios from July 13th to August 8th. The Invitational will take place from August 17th to 21st. Assuming Phase II is in effect, Ballet Virginia will comply with all safety measures and only allow the appropriate number of students per capacity.

Adults: Classes will remain on Zoom from June 15th through August 8th (eight-week session). The Adult Dance Camp dates of June 24th to 27th remain the same but the camp will be offered on Zoom with a new format and cost.

Updated information regarding payment and procedures will be added to our Summer 2020 website pages soon.

We thank you for your support, flexibility and patience during these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Ballet Virginia Faculty and Staff

The Zoom weekly class schedule is exactly the same as last week’s. 😊

To get as much as possible out of at-home virtual classes, here are two things you can do:
1. Check your WiFi connection. Zoom requires both fast upload and download speeds. If your connection is weak have a look at these WikiHow tips for a better WiFi connection.

2. Consider buying a floor covering that’s better for dance. This is actually shower pan liner and only $35 but it’s a lot like the Marley flooring in our studios. .

If you have a currently registered student, you will receive an invitation from the teacher(s) listed for your dancer’s class(es). If you are not a current student and wish to participate in our Zoom classes please contact us for registration information. Invitations will be sent out by Noon on the day of for afternoon/evening classes and by 6 PM the night before for morning classes. Please contact your teacher if you do not receive an invitation or Amy Sokol if it is close to class start time.

We miss you all and look forward to seeing you soon. Thanks for your continued support through these challenging times.

March 26, 2020

We are busy planning and creating digital content to share with you. If you are a current registered student, you should have received links to Vimeo for classes this week. Next week, we will teach classes using Zoom which will allow us to interact with the students. Your dancer will see the teacher and the teach will see the students. Keep an eye on your inbox for a schedule and then invitations to join specific classes. We also love all the likes and posts everyone is sharing through social media based on our stories and posts. Private lessons are still available. Contact janina@balletvirginia.org for new scheduling with any of our faculty.

It’s important that you contact us by this Saturday, March 28 if you are a current academy student or parent/guardian regarding April’s tuition. Currently, we intend to make up as many missed classes as possible at the end of the school year. We understand that this public health situation is financially difficult and will be offering the following options for tuition for the 2019-2020 school year.

  • Donate your tuition to help support our students and artists and participate in our online classes. All donations are tax deductible.
  • Credit your tuition towards the summer.
  • Temporarily withdraw from the Academy as of April 1, 2020

Please keep in mind that Ballet Virginia is a non-profit organization and we rely heavily on tuition for general operating support. As an organization, we need your support now more than ever as we look forward to bringing ballet back to our community as soon as possible. All donations and credits will be processed at the end of the school year in order to ensure the correct amount is processed. You must contact us at amy@balletvirginia.org by Saturday, March 28 to let us know. If you do not contact us we will assume you are planning to take part in our online classes and will continue paying tuition.
Lastly, much thanks to all the parents and students who have emailed, called or posted their support. We miss you all and look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Keep Dancing!

March 23, 2020

We are currently planning to remain closed until further notice. This applies to all classes: Children’s Program, Lower School, Upper School, BV II’s and Adult program classes. We are creating digital content to share with you so that the Academy community can keep moving together throughout this challenging time. Keep an eye on your inbox for links from suzanne@balletvirginia.org to classes that will be sent out soon. Also, look out for our engaging daily social media posts. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Academy staff at suzanne@balletvirginia.org
Ballet Virginia faculty and staff are practicing social distancing to do our part in keeping the community safe by limiting the number of people in the building, with most of our employees working remotely. At this time, both the Norfolk and Beach locations are closed to the public. Private lessons are still available. Contact janina@balletvirginia.org for new scheduling with any of our faculty.

As we work our way through these unprecedented times, we want to keep you informed. We are looking at this week as our Spring Break (instead of April 13 to 18) in hopes that we will be back to classes and rehearsals soon.
Right now, our faculty is busy creating online classes that we will send to our students soon so they can dance at home. There will be something for every level. You will see your teachers along with a few dancers. Vimeo links will be sent out using the email you used for registration.
We will also be sending out full-length video links for Ballet Virginia’s Nutcracker 2019, Snow White, 12 Dancing Princesses, Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty 2015.
Each week we will update you with new information and content. We hope these efforts help your dancer stay inspired.
In the meantime, we hope that your families remain safe and healthy.
