Dress Code

Ballet Virginia maintains that a uniform dress code is useful in creating a successful learning environment. Students are required to wear the dress code for their level. Leotards for girls and women as well as shirts for boys and men are available for purchase through Ballet Virginia. 

Hair must be secured in a bun and away from the face and eyes. The only jewelry permitted is stud earrings. All students are expected to maintain a neat appearance. Students of all ages should wear clothing over their dance attire when outside of the building. Dance shoes should never be worn on any outside surfaces.

Dance with Me:  Any color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, skirts and tutus are allowed. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone

Pre-Ballet, Beginning Ballet, Ballet A, B and Tap 1:  See order form for leotard, convertible pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair in a classical ballet bun and black tap shoes if taking tap class. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone.

Level 1 and 2See order form for leotard, convertible pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair in a classical ballet bun, black tap shoes (if taking tap) and jazz shoes (if taking Jazz).  Bare feet preferred for Modern. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone.

Level 3 and 4:  See order form for leotard, convertible pink tights, pink ballet shoes. hair in a classical ballet bun and jazz shoes (if taking Jazz 1 or 2/3).  Bare feet for Modern. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone.

Level 5 and 6:  See order form for leotard, convertible pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a classical ballet bun.  Bare feet for Modern. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone.

Level 7: See order form for leotard,  convertible pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a classical ballet bun.  Bare feet for Modern. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone.

BV II:  See order form for leotard, convertible pink tights, pink ballet shoes and hair in a classical ballet bun.  Bare feet preferred for Modern. Dancers of color have the option of wearing flesh colored tights /shoes appropriate to their skin tone.

Boy’s and Young Men: Boys (Up to Age 11): Black shorts, or leggings, black shoes, white socks and see order form for shirt. Jazz shoes for Character.  Tap and Jazz shoes if signed up for electives. Young Men (12 and older): Black tights and dance belt, black shoes or white shoes with white socks and see order form for shirt.  Jazz shoes for Character.  Jazz and Tap shoes if signed up for electives.
