In an effort to reach out to the community, Ballet Virginia has created a library program that connects literacy to the art of dance. We are currently working with Norfolk Public Libraries and have worked with the Virginia Beach Public Libraries in previous years.
To begin the program, a Ballet Virginia faculty member reads age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction books about dance. Then, along with a company dancer, the group will bring the books to life with a condensed ballet class. The program takes 45 minutes to an hour.
The program is very flexible and can be themed around a certain ballet or event such as Black History Month.
