Ballet Virginia is committed to spreading the beauty of dance throughout the Hampton Roads community. Since 2008, we have shared our message with thousands of community children and adults.
Ballet Virginia has performed at fundraisers for Chesapeake Regional Medical with its Breast Cancer Awareness Campaigns. Visiting many public libraries in Virginia Beach and Norfolk over the years, BV has spread the joy of dance through stories and movement. During its acclaimed Nut-to-Go programs, BV has brought a condensed version of The Nutcracker to many Norfolk Public Schools with help from a grant from the Norfolk Arts Commission.
Every year BV offers specially priced school shows of The Nutcracker at The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. This gives thousands of children the opportunity to see a full length classical ballet at a fraction of the regular ticket price.
Ballet Virginia is also home to The First Pointe Players. This junior company is led by legendary instructor Patricia Sorrell. These young dancers enhance the lives of elderly adults by performing nursing homes, schools and libraries. Many former members are dancing professionally in ballet companies and other forms of theater. Those who have gone into other fields speak often of their experience as a First Pointe Player dancer and how it has helped to shape their lives.
