Summer Intensive:

“Ballet Virginia truly prepared me for a career as a professional dancer. They taught me so many things pertaining to ballet and basic life lessons. The program forced me to develop a great work ethic and a focus on self-discipline that has helped me become the dancer I am today.”

— Kellen Hornbuckle, Houston Ballet Corps de Ballet

This summer, serious ballet students from across the United States will be welcomed to beautiful coastal Virginia for an intense two or four week ballet training program led by Ballet Virginia faculty, artistic leaders, company members, and distinguished guest instructors.  Students will be immersed in the studios, logging over 160 studio hours while gaining strength and confidence in the classroom and on the stage.

Ballet Virginia Summer Intensive is for dancers aged 12-22 who:

  • Want to expand their training experience

Diversity and adaptability are an important part of learning to dance in preparation for the classical to contemporary spectrum of today’s performing arts organizations.  Students will learn to adapt to a variety of styles and teachers.  Morning classes will start in RDA curriculum ballet technique, partnering, pointe and variations then transitioning into afternoon modern, jazz, and contemporary choreography.  This gives the student the opportunity to train into stronger, well-rounded dancers.

  • Are dedicated to growth in a positive environment

Students who come to Ballet Virginia’s summer intensive have already committed a large portion of their lives to dance.  During their time at Ballet Virginia, they’ll make connections and friends with like-minded students.  Individualized instruction will allow these students to absorb insights from caring and passionate teachers who have had extensive professional dance careers.

  • Are seeking a professional dance career

Six days per week, students will be given the opportunity to train and dance in a professional environment.  As they work with Ballet Virginia artists and guest faculty, students will  strengthen their technique and grow immensely in their stage presence.
